Overview
Peg Solitaire is a removal puzzle played on a board of holes. A move jumps one peg over an adjacent peg into an empty hole exactly two positions away, removing the peg in between. Only horizontal and vertical jumps are allowed. The aim is to leave one peg on the board. There are no cards, suits or draw piles: this is the classic jumping-peg ruleset, separate from the site's card solitaire. The local Pegs engine offers board configurations through its Type menu. Because every move reduces the peg count, a plausible-looking early jump can create an isolated peg that cannot participate in the endgame. Undo makes those consequences explorable without forcing you to reconstruct the whole starting arrangement after each mistake.
How to Play
Drag a peg onto an empty hole two spaces away along a row or column. The intermediate hole must contain another peg for the jump to be legal. On a phone, begin the drag near the peg's centre and release inside the destination hole. Continue making jumps until only one peg remains. If several pegs remain but no legal move is available, the attempt has reached a dead end; Undo or Restart lets you recover. Choose another board layout from Type when you want a different opening.
Tips & Strategy
Think about the last few jumps before clearing a whole arm of the board. A peg left alone at the far end of an empty corridor may have no neighbour to jump over and no way to be removed. Preserve useful pairs near the centre so they can support later jumps. When comparing two moves that remove the same number of pegs, prefer the one that keeps the remaining cluster connected by potential jumps. Count legal moves after a major clearing sequence rather than assuming fewer pegs always means a better position. Use Undo to investigate where an isolated survivor became unavoidable.
