Orbital Orchard

Balance light and water across three rotating habitat rings, adapting to four seasons and conflicting crop needs before the orbital harvest ends.

Overview

Orbital Orchard is a compact resource-management game set on three rotating habitat rings. Each ring contains a mixture of Shade Ferns, Sunfruit, and Moss Melons, and every crop has its own acceptable light and water range. You allocate those two resources per ring while a wandering sun adds a temporary light bonus to one habitat. Healthy crops grow, harvest automatically at maturity, and are replaced; plants outside either comfort range lose health and may leave an empty bed. Four seasons alter resource budgets and effective conditions. Summer provides abundant light but increases water demand, winter sharply reduces available light, and spring and autumn create different transition problems. Because several plant species may share one ring, no allocation is automatically perfect: the goal is to protect the most valuable combination, react before stressed plants die, and reach the harvest quota within the available days. Resource totals, crop comfort ranges, coloured status marks, day, season, deaths, and harvest progress stay visible during play.

How to Play

Press 1, 2, or 3 to select a habitat ring, then use Left and Right to decrease or increase the active resource in ten-point steps. Tab or W switches between Light and Water mode. Pointer and touch players can select a ring and hold the large adjustment buttons; Mode changes the edited resource. Press P to pause and R to restart. The resource budget prevents allocations whose three-ring total exceeds the current season's limit. Reach the displayed harvest quota before the final day. The run is lost if time expires without enough crops or every living plant withers.

Tips & Strategy

Read the crop guide before changing allocations. Ferns prefer moderate light and water, Sunfruit needs high light with less water, and Moss Melons tolerate shade but demand moisture. When a ring contains incompatible species, choose which group to support rather than placing every crop just outside its range. Watch the small light and water status ticks around each plant: one bad resource causes slow stress, while both being wrong drains health faster. Allocate scarce seasonal resources to rings with several crops sharing a compatible range. The sun's moving bonus can push a well-lit ring above a plant's maximum, so reduce its base light when the bonus arrives and restore it as the sun moves on. Seasonal changes may make the current total illegal for the new budget; respond early instead of waiting for visible damage. Mature crops replace themselves with a new random species, which means a stable ring can require adjustment immediately after harvest. On mobile, short holds make one ten-point change while longer holds repeat, so release as soon as the intended value appears.

What Makes It Distinct

The rotating rings are not only decoration: they make temporary sunlight part of a management problem that already includes species conflict and seasonal scarcity. Orbital Orchard provides exact comfort ranges rather than hiding outcomes behind vague happiness meters. Runs remain short, but every harvest changes the crop mix and forces the player to reconsider a system that was balanced only moments earlier.
